Message	would be that Nissan needed every millimeter they could get to package that motor under the hood. I'm not sure how much higher an non-interference motor version of the VG30DE(TT) motor would be but I would think that it may have played a contributing role. Certainly there were other, more influential, reasons but I'd still offer that the motor height may have had something to do with it.
